About the role 

We sit at the intersection of design and technology and value designers with a keen eye for detail, and a good mix of technical, commercial and UX knowledge. Under the supervision of the senior design team members you will work across multiple projects, both for clients and in-house initiatives. We are looking for someone with a keen interest in UX and UI design as well as  graphic design for communications.

Job Specification:

The focus of The School of Life’s in-house design team is the creative work for the company’s marketing, events and business services. As a Midweight Digital Designer you will be responsible for creating and art-working assets across each of these channels assisting in the growth and development of the brands visual output. Most of your work will be digitally focused but there will be an ad-hoc demand for print too.

As a Product Designer at Magnetic Rock you’ll be aligned to a single product where you’ll drive the design direction alongside a small multi-functional product team – including a dedicated Product Manager, as well as Front and Backend Developers. But you’ll also form part of a wider design group, including other Product Designers, a UX Lead, an Illustrator and Brand Designer, and a Visual Designer – all of which report to one of our founders, the Chief Creative Officer, and a designer himself with over 20 years experience creating businesses and products.

You’ll be working in a fast moving product incubator environment, working on products which are shaping the future of edtech in the cyber security industry. About you

We are looking for strong Product Designers with exceptional UI skills and a good understanding of UX. In particular we are looking for:

  • An excellent knowledge of design fundamentals, with experience applying that knowledge to design solutions to complex product problems.
  • Experience designing complex user interfaces and extensive component libraries which are high quality, engaging, accessible and functional.

Specifically, you will be responsible for converting the firm’s sales and marketing messages into high-impact designs that will help our firm get noticed, and to help convince our audiences that we’re the right firm for them. You will work alongside Business Development & Marketing professionals and our senior lawyers to produce effective digital and print materials, social media graphics, infographics and other sales materials. The role will be hands-on, producing designed materials on a daily basis. We are seeking creative outputs that comply at all times to the firm’s brand guideline.

The role can be based in Manchester or Leeds. We currently have a split WFH/office culture in place

What will the role involve?

  • Create and deliver high-impact sales pitches, presentations, campaign materials, advertising, digital assets and other sales materials on a hands-on basis. If able to, create simple animations for social media. Some projects will be time-pressured.
  • Advise lawyers, marketers and sales professionals on the best, most effective way to deliver our messages via a range of graphic design techniques, such as infographics, typography and the like. This will require information design nous, design consultancy skills and personal influence.
  • Ensure design projects assigned to you are delivered on time, on budget and per the brief.
  • Ensure all design materials adhere to our brand guidelines. You will be a brand guardian for the firm.
  • Present new ideas on how to differentiate or improve the impact and effectiveness of the firm’s marketing and sales communications, online and in print
  • Work closely with our design and digital workflow supervisors to ensure we are responding to the firm’s design requests in a timely, efficient way.
  • Work closely with our in-house workflow co-ordinator to prioritise and deliver design requests
  • Handle design project ‘escalations’ effectively.

What experience will you need for this role?

  • Must have been working in graphic design on commercial projects for a minimum of 2 years, including some experience of working within a professional business / office-based environment.
  • You must have experience in working on both digital and print projects, and must have a track record of working within corporate brand guidelines.
  • Must be able to convert (or craft) messages into effective visual communications, and be a creative problem solver. You will be able to demonstrate a flair for bringing complex information to life visually, using infographics and other techniques.
  • Must have excellent, hands-on experience of Adobe Creative Suite (particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator) and Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. (We are a PC-based environment.) Appreciation of website design, best practice in social media advertising, AfterEffects or other video and audio editing platforms would be beneficial.
  • Our primary house graphic style is based upon illustrations. Strong illustration skills would be highly advantageous.
  • You must have the personal gravitas to guide and persuade colleagues on the best, most effective way to communicate visually
  • An excellent client service attitude and clear personal communications are a must, and you will have the ability to adapt your style to different, senior individuals, with different working styles.

We are looking for a creative and organised Design Manager, who is significantly experienced in a multimedia visual design discipline, to join the team in our London office. This agency has a strong focus on producing meaningful work that is underpinned by substance and storytelling, that is functional but beautifully crafted. They are looking for an established Creative Director with a folio of inspirational work, who will champion creative excellence across the business and help them continue to deliver outstanding work.

We’re looking for someone who has a strong background in branding and visual communication. A credible and inspirational creative who is passionate about big ideas and storytelling and enjoys developing concepts through to successful outcomes. You’ll need to show strong signs of being able to think beyond 2D through work and projects that include digital, environmental and brand experience elements as well as core branding and VIS. And we’d expect to see work that feels fresh, exciting and progressive.

As well as building stronger relationships with existing clients you’ll also be confident using your creative network, contacts and reputation to generate and attract new ones. This is a highly collaborative studio so whilst we’re looking for a natural leader with a strong vision you’ll need to have an inclusive and nurturing management style.

This person will play a leading role in defining concepts and ideas for the social strand of one of the agency’s pillar clients. Being a new position within a truly multi-disciplined team, it’s an opportunity to add significant value and help shape the social direction for this client. We’re looking for someone with an impressive creative background alongside a deep understanding of internet culture and a genuine passion for social media and creating best in class work within this space. You’ll be responsible for driving the delivery of the social calendar across all platforms but also work in partnership with the wider team to support ATL campaigns too.

Our ideal candidate will be heavily involved in initial concepting and the end-to-end creative oversight of projects, collaborating with the campaign team to develop overarching creative into bespoke and elevated social assets and content.
