Welcome to the Bear Cave.

We’re a small but mighty team looking to make a great new hire. We are looking for entrepreneurial spirits, we want White Bear to be your business and we want you to drive it like it’s your own. With this great individual responsibility, we need to have 100% trust in each other, making us a close-knit team. We admire bravery and a hunger for hustle and personal growth. We’re a team who are driven by purpose and demonstrate action rather than analysis paralysis.

At the heart of who we are is a playful spirit that is the common thread through all that we do. We bring out our inner child in order to bring to life others’ visions.

We are a growing agency looking for a Senior Designer who wants to be part of and help drive that growth.

Who are you?

– You are brave and curious, creating distinctive design with the ability to both originate ideas and to see them through to implementation.

– You have 5+ years of experience working agency side. Expereince in the UK top 10 agencies is a bonus.

– You have delivered Brand and Packaging projects. Knowledge digital design and motion is a plus.

– You are responsible and self motivated. You have expereincing leading projects from beginning to end.

– You are confident in presenting your ideas internally and to clients.

– You have excellent Adobe CC skills. Figma and Midjourney is a bonus.

– You demonstrate skills in illustration, typography and copywriting.

– You enjoy working in a fast-paced environment balancing and managing your time.

– You are positive, ambitious, entrepreneurial and willing to muck in wherever you’re needed.

What you will be looking for…

• Be part of a team that’s on a rocket ship and tangibly seeing the difference you can make.

• Not stay in your lane, carving out a role that’s moulded just for you. We’ve no egos.

• Develop your career fast. We’re non-hierarchical and want everyone to grow with the agency in a safe environment.

• Flexible working. We work via a mixture of remote and studio time, 3 days in the studio with 2 working remotely.

• Work flexibly and work smart. Shorter hours than most agencies. We work 9.30 – 5.30 with flexibility. We don’t believe in working late – we all have personal lives. Though we recognise that sometimes this is necessary when we need to pull a presentation out of the bag.

• We encourage people to travel while working and offer 1 month working abroad every year.

• Each of our team is on their own tour of duty to deliver their personal growth and help them to achieve their career goals on a fast track.

• Get free coffee, we have a barista onsite for free coffees

• Continuous personal development training budget.

What else…

To tell great stories we need great talent. We create the best quality creative we can for every client we work with and every time we start a new project we strive to improve. The relentless pursuit of perfection is our mindset. ‘Good enough’ is not good enough. If we are going to innovate and be truly creative, we need to fail, and fail better each time. ‘Never stop playing’ is our motto and we carry that vigour through everything we do, which helps us create the novel, marvellous and brave.

We value candour but it needs to be constructive. We take responsibility when we screw up. Mistakes are impossible to avoid but it is possible to acknowledge them, learn from them and set an example. We say what we think even if it is controversial.

We never miss an opportunity to learn. We have a growth mindset and push ourselves to act outside of our comfort zone. We don’t stay in our lanes, we seek to get involved outside of our job description. Ask questions. There’s no such thing as a stupid question.

We value ability over experience. We don’t accept mediocrity. We exhibit bias-to-action and avoid analysis-paralysis. We take smart risks. We measure our impact.

We treat people with respect independent of their status. We inspire others with our thirst for excellence. We help others shine. We can’t be big if we belittle.

The role.

A London-based Digital Designer with 3+ years experience in a digital, UX or experience design role. You are a mid or senior designer with more than a few great digital projects behind you and you’re ready for more: more responsibility, more experimentation, more of a challenge and more room to grow. You design with the end user at heart, using design thinking to guide your approach to building exceptional experiences, and you believe you can change the world for the better.

Who you are.

You have proven yourself in a digital or brand studio and have contributed to projects in meaningful ways. Now you are looking to take what you’ve learnt and push your skills even further. You are driven by ideas and express them through well crafted design and innovative digital. You break the mould consistently. You’re refining your craft, executing top-tier ideas every time. Your work takes users on a journey that not only solves problems, but is a delight to interact with. You’re able to drop in and out of projects smoothly, inspiring the wider team with your thinking, designs and prototypes. You take clients on a journey as you communicate how the work solves challenges for both their business and their customers.

Who we are.

DixonBaxi is a group of people who make beautiful, original brands that change the world for the better. We’re fuelled by creativity and reject convention. We are trusted by some of the world’s most interesting companies, including Max, ITV, Hulu, TNT, Samsung, Audible, AT&T, British Land, IMAX, Konami, Eurosport, Netflix and AC Milan. Brands that seek to be brave and challenge convention.

We partner with brands and in-house creative teams across the world from our London studio. We seek revolution rather than evolution and embrace change to remain fiercely original.

Great design is born of difference; we constantly seek new perspectives and identities to build our team. We’re a vibrant, eclectic, open group of people from Seattle, Lagos, New Zealand and everywhere in between, which makes for a rich environment full of ideas.

What we believe.

DixonBaxi is a place of growth. A positive and diverse culture makes us all do great things. The creative studio atmosphere allows everyone to develop new skills, try new things and never settle. We are open-minded and adapt to new ways of working or thinking constantly. We foster access, opportunity and success for everyone.
We care about the team and always look for new ways of working and supporting each other. Our 4.5-day week is a good example, and Friday lunches – the weekly thank you!

Our benefits include Mental Health Support, gym membership discounts and a cycle-to-work scheme. We encourage travel overseas to meet our clients and embrace the opportunity to do things together (like our trips to Copenhagen and Barcelona).

As for the fun stuff – we come together every Wednesday to celebrate projects, birthdays and workiversaries. There is the opportunity for each person to shout out thanks to other team members.

What you do.

These are just some skills we would expect a Digital Designer to have. We know brilliance comes in many forms, and our minds are always open.

  • You are passionate about design, creativity and pushing the boundaries of how you work.
  • You prefer to invent rather than follow trends.
  • You have a love of translating new brands into living products that empower our audiences.
  • You understand how user insights drive these products and ultimately enhance the brand experience.
  • You own parts of the digital experience within a project, working towards the project vision alongside the rest of the team.
  • Using strategy and research to gain deep knowledge of the project you reflect your understanding in your work.
  • You’re able to support your senior team by doing everything to the best of your ability.
  • A team player who thrives on collaboration within and across teams.
  • Ability to craft exceptional work from brilliant ideas and clearly articulate how those ideas lead to a final design and product.
  • You are a UI expert with a knowledge of how UX and research drives a project.
  • You have broad knowledge and deep understanding of digital design methodologies, best practice, techniques and tools.
  • You are able to develop and communicate ideas using sketches, wireframes, design tests and prototypes.
  • A visual thinker with an industry leading design eye, capable of creating both low-fi sketches and pixel-perfect visual designs.
  • An empathetic designer, you think about the end user at all times. You design for systems, not for screens in isolation.
  • The ability to forge strong designer/developer relationships and experience preparing design for developer handover.
  • You are a natural problem solver and get a kick out of teaching
  • You are not bound by convention. You are brimming with originality and new creative ideas and approaches.
  • You manage your time effectively, maintain responsibility for your projects and ensure they always run smoothly.

Technical skills

  • Masterful understanding of Figma, Sketch, XD and Adobe Creative Suite, as well as:
    • wireframing/workshop tools (Miro, Mural, FigJam, etc)
    • prototyping tools (InVision, Protopie, Principle, Framer, etc)
    • no-code development platforms (Webflow, animaapp, Elementor, Editor X, etc)
  • Be proficient in design and image-making software, e.g. Figma, Adobe CC.
  • Be aware of, and know how to use emerging technologies, e.g. MidJourney, Runway, ChatGPT.
  • Able to prototype a user journey for a product feature.
  • Able to design and build digital brand guidelines
  • Able to demostrate how a brand flexes across multiple digital applications.
  • Confident in wireframing and designing key pages, modules and components for a website or product.
  • Animation skills and understanding of After Effects, Lottie and other relevant software.

FAQs

Salaries

Our salary brackets are not stated in our job ads. Often our job adverts are open to appeal to candidates at various levels, each level with its own salary brackets. We believe in the concept of ‘know your worth’ and have this discussion with all our initial short-listed candidates.

We regularly benchmark salaries against industry standards [with experts like Major Players, MKS, The DBA, Source and Benchpress] to ensure our compensation packages are competitive and fair. We are committed to transparency and fairness in our hiring process and discuss salary openly with candidates during the interview stage. This approach ensures everyone is evaluated on their merits and potential rather than on predetermined salary brackets. We embrace the concept of ‘know your worth’.

Feedback

We get many applicants for each role which is very much appreciated but unfortunately, it makes it challenging to provide feedback to every applicant. You will always receive an email response to show that we have received your application.

You will of course get written and/or verbal feedback if you make it to the interview stage but are not selected for the role.

Using both crowdfunding campaigns and limited editions to reach new and niche audiences, the platform’s success led to the recent acquisition of two other digital-native publishers: Read-Only Memory, whose high-specification books on videogaming has captured a devoted fan base, and Unit Editions, the world’s leading publisher of books on graphic design and typography. Backed by 75-year-old independent global art and visual culture publisher Thames & Hudson, headquartered in London, these enterprising initiatives comprise the Volume Group. – Foster and grow our online community, maintaining community engagement by responding to comments, messages, and mentions, and repost customer content featuring our books, across social media channels.  Monitoring trends and conversations and identifying opportunities to further engage our audience

– Plan and execute social media campaigns aligned with new book launches to maximise sales.  Working closely with authors to guide and harmonise with their own social media activities around book launches

Calling all emerging designers – we’re looking for you!

We’re Elmwood – an award-winning global brand and design consultancy delivering meaningful and memorable brand solutions for global and local clients.

We’re looking for you! Our London studio offers 8 1-month paid placements throughout the year to candidates with applicable experience looking to get some hands-on experience at a global design agency, including recent graduates, final-year students and those who may not be entering the industry through higher education.

What do we offer?

· 1-month paid placement

· For the best experience, we ask designers to come into our studio a minimum of three days per week (based in Covent Garden)

· Flexible working hours

· Working on live projects alongside experienced creatives across all levels

Tips for our interns:

1. Have an online portfolio

This might seem obvious to many, but your full PDF folio is likely to be very large and could be blocked or fail to send. Having an online presence allows you to put all of your work in one place, and you can tell the full story of each one at your own pace. However, we know that hosting a site can be an expense not everyone can afford – if your file is particularly large or you have a portfolio in a different format, please reach out to us! WeTransfer is also a great alternative for file sharing.

2. Social media should be an extension of your folio, not the core

This one speaks for itself!

3. Have a PDF CV and mini folio with hyperlinks to your projects ready to go

Save them to your device or in the cloud.

4. Tailor your emails

In your cover letter, introduce yourself briefly and say why you’d like to work at this company. Mention projects that you liked (and why), and why you think you’d be a good fit for this placement/position.

5. Curate your work

Come prepared to any interviews you might get; with a PDF of the projects you’d like to talk through. Take the time to present the process you went through. If you have projects you think are relevant to this agency, include them!

6. Research who you’re meeting

Looking up your interviewer on LinkedIn isn’t stalking, it’s showing them that you’re taking the time to prepare for your meeting. If you find something you have in common with this person, use it as an icebreaker!

7. Come prepared with questions

You might have specific questions on projects the agency has worked on, but maybe you have a couple that you can ask to every agency such as “could you describe the agency culture in three words?”.

8. Follow up

After your interview, follow up with an email thanking the individuals for their time. If you’re keen on the role, say so, and if there are any further questions ask them here. Just by doing this, you’re more likely to get a response regardless of the outcome.

9. Seek out opportunities

Keep an eye out for opportunities on job boards, LinkedIn, and Instagram!

10. Don’t give up!

Don’t get disheartened by rejection. Instead, take as much from each experience as you can, and see it as a positive that you’re heading in the right direction. At any stage of your career you are likely to get more ‘no’s’ than ‘yes’, but that isn’t necessarily a reflection on you or your work – it might be culture, circumstance or even that the agency recognise that you won’t get as much out of the role as you would want. But do keep going.

FAQ:

Why am I expected to come to the studio x3 per week?

We want each and every one of our interns to get the most out of this opportunity, so we feel that’s the case through a collaborative, in-person approach. We also put on several social events that we love for our interns to be a part of to get to know the team better and immerse yourself into the true Elmwood culture (check out our Instagram to see what we’re talking about)!

Do I get to choose which projects I want to work on?

We aim to have our interns trial working across various teams during their time with us and working on branding and packaging work for a number of well-known brands. Each intern’s experience will vary based on the live work we have on at the moment.

What happens after the internship?

We have had an intern every year over the last few years obtain a full-time role at Elmwood based on the work they produced during their time interning with us.

how to apply

Step 1: Get your portfolio in shape. Pick the work you’re really proud of and which you believe reflects your personality. Feel free to show sketches that show your thinking process – it doesn’t have to be polished. We’re looking for what’s the big idea!

Step 2: Send us a PDF of your work along with your CV and a cover letter. If you have won any awards, let us know here too!

Remember to include your available dates in your application.

Step 3: Send your email to placementslondon@elmwood.com

Step 4: The boring bit – waiting. We get quite a few applications, so please be patient with us whilst we review them. We’ll get back to you about next steps – if you don’t make it this time, please don’t feel discouraged from reapplying again in the future (we’ll be around for a while).

You’re looking for an opportunity to join an established (30+ years), well regarded, independent agency. You want to really grab hold of a creative team and lead it. You can challenge the status quo and suggest improvements that will take their creative offer to the next level.

You have a great understanding of exhibitions, events, and trade shows, and generally how to design for a space. You know how to incorporate technology in your design and make an experience truly immersive and innovative. A wall doesn’t have to be a brick wall – it could be a screen, glass, it could spin, or even be a hologram! You have the amazing concept, and the delivery team is brilliant at making it come to life.

You’ll be the founder’s right-hand person, and with this power comes great responsibility. You can not only come up with concepts – you can also explain your reasoning behind them and take others on the journey to truly understand why something will work.

There will be a certain amount of travel involved both within the UK and internationally, so hopefully that’s something you’d look forward to!

You’ll be:

  • Working closely with the founder to improve the creative offer.
  • Heading a team of designers.
  • Hands on some of the time, with a great team to delegate to when needed.
  • Obsessed by the whole customer experience, during and after the event.

You’ll have:

  • 5-10+ years designing for spaces (exhibitions, shows etc.)
  • Experience in 3D spatial design and knowledge of 3D software.
  • Broad knowledge of materiality and the build process.
  • Highly curious around software and trends for digital experiences.
  • The ability to keep a cool head under pressure.
  • Ambition and practicality in equal measures.

Do you know your crop marks from your break points? Your DPI from your Figma components?

As a Multidisciplinary Designer at &us, you will design a range of solutions for clients and their customers. Because we’re an innovation and transformation consultancy, the work we do is broad and creative, so we’re looking for a designer who is happy to learn and try their hand at creating things they’ve not made before. You’ll be designing things you already love doing such as printed booklets, digital prototypes, decks and diagrams – and you will be excited to lean in and create something new: such as a video or a workshop experience.

We’re a friendly and curious team of innovators, looking for a fellow design optimist. We know that a diversity of backgrounds, experience and opinions builds the strongest multi-disciplinary design team, so encourage those from under-represented groups to apply.

📍Role based in Old St, London, with flexible working and opportunities to travel in the course of work.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Design at &us is broad, really broad. We work with agility and our project deliverables are across all formats, so our backgrounds vary across the team: from 3D product designers to creative directors and UX specialists. We don’t expect you to know how to design everything, but we like people who are happy to learn and try their hand at creating things they’ve not made before.

  • Co-creating IRL workshops and designing the assets required to bring them to the next level: printed booklets, wall charts, sets of cards – whatever will make the session memorable.
  • Creating a broad range of other assets that might include storyboards, diagrams, journey maps, timelines or anything else required to tell the right story.
  • Designing decks that tell project stories visually, in ways that make project outcomes and client-value clear.  You’ll especially support the Transformation Team to create deck narratives or workshops in our brand, or a client’s brand.
  • Working in an iterative way, towards clear briefs, testing and adapting designs as you go.
  • Try out tools you’ve not used before (e.g. Miro, videography software and AI) to create visuals of concepts that might not exist yet.
  • Looking for opportunities to improve our design work, such as  better accessibility or to include more life-centred design approaches.
  • Some project management is required because we don’t have account or project managers. Instead, we collaborate in agile sprints to make progress quickly.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

We need someone with agency or consultancy experience, who knows how to get hands-on with design work.

Essential

  • 3+ years experience creating design deliverables across platforms.
  • Knowledge of both print and digital, including the strengths and implications of choosing one over the other.
  • Confident using Figma, PowerPoint, GSuite, Adobe and/or tools of your choice.
  • A love of typography, information hierarchies and clear visual thinking.
  • Fantastic communication skills (written, spoken, and presented).
  • Experience with managing your own deadlines, and delivering good quality work within a project timeline. And the ability to ask for help when needed.
  • Naturally collaborative, keen to give and take design critique constructively.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge or curiosity for videography, illustration or 3D are always welcome.
  • An eye on what’s coming: from life-centred design to the future of work.
  • Involvement in design thinking workshops, sprints and user-centred design projects.

ABOUT &us

We collaborate with our clients across technology, pharma, financial services, charities and retail to help them tackle their biggest challenges. Using a range of design thinking and agile methodologies, our best work sees us working hand-in-hand with our clients to make things, coaching them as we go on the skills, tools, and mindset they need to make sustainable changes for the better.

Growth and opportunity

You will learn to understand complex client challenges, become their strategic partner and broaden your skills based on project needs. We will mentor and support you in the next step of your career and we’ll help you understand what we expect and how we’ll support you in getting there.

Here are just some of the reasons why it’s great to work for &us:

  • A collaborative, open and inclusive culture
