The role and purpose 
The Senior Retail Technical Designer plays a pivotal role in turning creative concepts into fully developed, scalable and production-ready solutions. Leading the 3D and technical design process, this role ensures that creative intent is translated into detailed CAD models and buildable fixturing systems suited for both bespoke and mass manufacture. Working across global markets the position collaborates closely with procurement, production and creative teams to manage suppliers, oversee prototyping, and deliver high-quality outcomes. With strong project management responsibilities, the role guides projects from initial brief through to installation, balancing commercial objectives with design integrity. This position requires extensive technical expertise, international manufacturing experience and the ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships while upholding consistent global brand standards.

Key Responsibilities.

3D Development & Technical Design 

– Translate creative concepts into fully resolved technical CAD drawings and 3D models.

– Ensure feasibility of design solutions for both bespoke and mass production, with a focus on retail environments, store layouts, and fixturing systems.

– Provide design-engineering expertise across materials, construction methods, finishes, and production techniques.

Production, Procurement & Manufacture 

– Develop designs for batch and mass manufacturing across global markets, with a particular emphasis on EMEA retail environments.

– Work closely with the procurement team to support supplier identification, negotiation, and contract management across international markets.

– Liaise with suppliers, fabricators, and manufacturing partners to ensure high-quality and cost-effective outcomes.

– Oversee prototyping, sampling, and testing processes to guarantee production readiness.

Project Management 

– Lead projects across the full design lifecycle

– from initial briefing and concept development to manufacture and installation.

– Work closely with the project management team to support managing timelines, budgets, resources, and deliverables across multiple concurrent projects.

– Navigate complex stakeholder relationships, contracts, and supplier negotiations to ensure successful outcomes.

Job Specification 

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Management 

– Act as the link between design intent and technical delivery, working closely with creative, production, procurement, and commercial teams.

– Key stakeholders include:

• Procurement Manager – alignment on supplier sourcing and procurement strategy.

• Production Project Manager – coordination on scheduling, installation, and delivery.

• Creative Director – ensuring design integrity and brand experience are maintained.

– Deliver clear and impactful client presentations, proposals, and design packages.

– Ensure global consistency of brand experience through technical standards, guidelines, and scalable fixturing systems.

 

Key Skills & Experience 

– 8+ years of proven experience in technical design management within retail environments and fixturing.

– Strong 3D CAD expertise (e.g. Vectorworks, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).

– Comprehensive understanding of materials, finishes, construction processes, and production methodologies.

– Experience in both bespoke manufacturing and large-scale, mass production.

– Strong knowledge of EMEA markets and international procurement practices.

– Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.

– Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.

-International experience with overseas manufacturing partners and global rollouts.

– Strong communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills

– Ability to thrive in both in-house studio and consultancy environments.

Preferred Background 

Degree in Design, Product Design, Architecture, or related discipline.

– Experience working with high-profile global retail brands.

– Familiarity with strategic planning, bid proposals, contracts, and large-scale design implementation.
