JOB TITLE: DESIGNER

Motive is a design and build studio specialising in contemporary spatial projects for brands. From our South London studio we work with an international network of local suppliers to deliver high-impact projects through a low-impact lens.
Working under the Design Director, the Designer will develop unique designs for a wide variety of shop fit-outs, pop-up shops, experiences, and workspaces. As a Designer at Motive you will play a crucial role throughout the various stages of our design projects. Your creativity and attention to detail will contribute to the success of our projects, ensuring that our clients’ visions are brought to life. You will be part of a small team based in our design studio in Elephant and Castle and will have 3-5 years of experience working in a similar setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
- Develop designs from ideation through to technical development and installation
- Communicate creative, thoughtful design thinking through moodboards and sketches
- Able to translate creative ideas into practical design solutions
- Produce comprehensive design documents for client facing presentations
- Create 3D models and renders
- Produce drawings of intent to send to suppliers for build
- Create artwork files for print
- Source materials, furniture, fixtures, and fittings for fit-out projects
- Compile physical samples and material palettes
- Collaborate with members of the project management team to ensure smooth running of projects
PROJECT COORDINATION
- Present documents to clients and attend client facing meetings
- Attend site visits and site surveys
- Work on multiple projects in parallel
- Work alongside freelance support and brief additional design resource when necessary
- Record hours billed for client work
- Work closely with the production team and Design Director to understand project
- timescales and deliverables
- Guide and share skills with junior members of the team as and when necessary
- Self-manage time throughout the day, with weekly plans supplied by Design Director
RESEARCH AND INSPIRATION
- Culturally aware with a strong interest in the arts
- Understanding of key trends and competitor work
- Attend design events and exhibitions throughout the year
- Research more environmentally friendly materials and methods of production
IN-HOUSE
- Maintain the Motive brand standards in all company output
- Assist with studio special projects
PROGRAMMES
Experienced: Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-up, V Ray
Non-essential: Vectorworks, Cinema 4D, Blender, Rhino
