The Telegraph are looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our award winning in-house Product Design team.

It’s an exciting opportunity to work on and influence reader experiences across our subscription product. You’ll be working on everything from paywalls and checkouts to bespoke engagement features, churn strategies and editorial campaigns. You’ll play a key role in the future of how The Telegraph communicates with its readers across our platforms using new and pre-existing technologies, utilising user research, data insights and testing to develop and optimise them.

You’ll be joining a friendly and empowered multidisciplinary team of designers and developers where experimentation and learning is encouraged. Day to day you’ll be working with Editorial, Subscriptions, Research, Product and Technology stakeholders to drive positive change to our reader experiences whilst also working towards our business goal of reaching 1 millions subscribers by 2023.

We’re looking for a hands-on designer with a keen eye for detail and a solid graphics background. You won’t be afraid to challenge a brief and will strive to constantly find ways to evolve and iterate our experiences. Data and research are our secret weapons and you won’t be afraid to dig into the numbers, heatmaps or conduct research to get to the bottom of a problem. You’ll know failures are as important as successes and be able to build upon your learnings. Confident in presenting concepts to the design team and wider stakeholders, you’ll be capable of acting on feedback and knowing when to prioritise user experience over business goals and vice versa.

You’ll be self-motivated and a natural problem solver, happy working independently or collaboratively as part of a team. You’ll be passionate about developing new and intuitive features that will engage our subscribers and create habits that keep them returning day after day.

Key responsibilities

You’ll work as part of a cross-functional team, collaborating with other designers, developers and stakeholders across the business to achieve shared goals.

You’ll be taking part and conducting research with readers, interpreting results, identifying needs and putting them into action.

Work with teams to define and design iterative A/B and MVT testing programmes to validate your ideas, learning through failures as much as successes.

You will map out experiences through user journeys and flows to establish ideas.
You’ll continuously improve your designs, working with our in-house user research and data teams to gain deeper understanding of how your designs are working.

Facilitate workshops with business owners, stakeholders and collaborators, capturing requirements and documenting outcomes.

Be a motivated team player, ambitious in your thinking and brave in your designs, with the ability to perform well under pressure.

Designing end to end user experiences from concept through to developer hand-off.

Develop high quality visual designs with a keen eye for typography, colour theory, grid systems and knowledge of user interface approaches across a range of digital platforms including responsive web and app.

Contribute to The Telegraph Design System.

Able to clearly articulate your design thinking and process with robust rationale for your design decisions.

Responsible for sharing progress and design rationale with stakeholders across Editorial, Product and Technology during regular design reviews.

Create bespoke experiences and designs, utilising animation and prototyping tools, to bring your ideas to life during presentations
Be confident in presenting to stakeholders of any seniority, collating feedback and translating into actions with the team.

Keen to learn and comfortable with experimenting to find the best possible outcome, working on a range of projects, from the big to the small, the experimental to the practical.

Skills required for the role

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating your design process and thinking end-to-end, with a good eye for graphic design, digital design patterns and interactions, and understanding of product development process.
  • A BA in a design related degree, or similar experience
  • Experience and knowledge of design software, such as Figma, Sketch and Adobe Creative Cloud, as well as prototyping tools, such as Invision, etc.

Desirable but not essential skills.

  • Experience in front end development.
  • Previous work experience in news media organisations or subscription industries.
  • Able to create graphic items to support the design, including icons, illustrations, animations and interactions.
  • Experience of working with and managing a Design System.
