About us
We believe great ideas deserve to be made. Going further than just ideas, we deliver real impact through the creation of beautiful digital and physical products. You will join a multidisciplinary team of designers, developers, engineers, and researchers united by their desire to make a difference.
We drive innovation across a diverse range of industries: from fem-tech ventures improving health outcomes for women; to digital tools for the civil infrastructure industry and improving digital storytelling in the climate-tech space. We’ve also designed our own award-winning bike lights! With an exciting pipeline of projects ahead, the Mettle team is expanding and looking for talented new team members who are driven by a desire to make a real, long-lasting impact. And have fun whilst doing so!
We are committed to making Mettle a joyful place to work where everyone feels comfortable to be themselves. We believe in flexible hybrid working, a healthy work-life balance, and supporting everyone to reach their full potential.
The Role
As a Junior Designer, you will:
- Support the development of large scale digital design systems
- Bring ideas to life through static visuals, sketches and storyboards
- Collaborate with the wider team on deep-dive UX and UI design sprints: generating ideas, prototyping concepts, testing with users, and detailing designs
- Learn to create effective, beautiful and feasible user flows, wireframes and detailed UI designs
- Participate in creative activities by generating ideas and helping to illustrate different concepts and ideas
- Improve your user research skills and help to create outcomes that fulfil users’ needs
- Grow your understanding of good, attractive aesthetic design
- Build a toolset of UX methods including flowcharts, wireframes, low-fidelity UI designs and information architectures
- Work closely with Mettle’s and clients’ software development teams to bring products to life and grow your understanding of how technical constraints influence how designs can be implemented
- Engage with best practice principles and processes
- Keep up-to-date with product and industry trends
- Offer your ideas for pitches and proposals during new business development
- Explore the role of communication and relationship building with clients and partners
Skills & Experience
You will have:
- A good portfolio of work that demonstrates your desire to work in digital, UI and/or UX design; this might include professional projects, those from your education or competitions, or self-initiated work
- A strong desire to get stuck in, try new things and have fun
- Good organisational skills with a desire to be proactive and work autonomously
- A willingness to navigate complexity and engage with technical detail
- Great levels of attention-to-detail
- Familiarity with digital design & prototyping software (we love Figma!)
- Good visual, verbal and written communication skills
- A strong desire to improve your skills and learn new tools and processes
It’s nice to have:
- Curiosity in workshop and Design Sprint facilitation
- Curiosity with front-end development languages or frameworks (such as HTML/CSS/JS, React, Django)
- Curiosity in no-code development (such as Webflow)
