We are only looking for candidates with excellent graphic design skills AND strong videographer skills. Your application will be automatically rejected if you have only one skill.

Brent Council
Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts. Our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here. Brent Council’s in-house design/film team provides comprehensive multi-media designs for print, and films, animations and motion infographics. The team is part of the busy communications unit, which is responsible for delivering the council’s corporate communications strategy. The council is currently pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community, so it is an exciting time to join us.

Graphic Designer and Videographer
This is a rare opportunity to join the team as a designer/videographer. The design/film team enforces the council’s agreed design standards across multiple communications platforms, including guidance on the use of the corporate identity.

Working across multiple communications channels, we are looking for creative, bright and talented graphic designer/videographers to join us on a permanent basis. Working as part of the fast-paced communications unit, you will effectively create both offline and online designs and a wide variety of films with exceptional visual impact.

Working largely to agreed briefs, you will be required to actively suggest creative ideas and bring work to fruition from concept to implementation. You must also have good organisational skills, a keen eye for detail and the ability to think on your feet.

Note that the interview process (both in-house and remotely) will require you to pass a graphic design and film editing test.

Due to the ongoing issues around the Covid-19 virus, while we would prefer London-based applications, we would also be happy to accept strong applications from candidates who can work remotely from their own home, with occasional visits to the Brent Civic Centre in Wembley, London, for training and film work.

The Person
The ideal candidate will have creative design and film flare, great attention to detail, and be highly skilled in using InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Adobe Premiere. The role is a mix of graphic design and filmmaking, working in and out of the house style, preparing magazines, brochures, flyers, posters, infographics, and large banners for print, and a wide range of film materials for online presentation. The work is varied and interesting and requires a designer/videographer who can multi-task and handle tight deadlines.

Brent Council values the diversity of its community and aims to have a workforce that reflects this and therefore encourage applications from all sections of the community. We positively encourage all applicants to self-identify their characteristics in the diversity survey section in the application.

We are committed to safer recruitment and safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants should be aware that posts working with children, young people and vulnerable adults are subject to an Enhanced DBS check as well as other employment clearances.

Brent has a positive approach to flexible working.

As a disability confident employer, Brent welcomes applications from people with all disabilities, including hidden disabilities and mental health conditions. We will interview any disabled applicant who meets the essential criteria. If you require reasonable adjustments to be made to any part of the recruitment process due to your disability, please contact us on recruitment@brent.gov.uk. Please note the information you provide will be treated fairly and confidentially.

Please note CVs will not be considered as part of your application for this position.
