Position: Full time. Mon-Thursday (28 hours a week). Flexible working hours.

The nature of a small business sometimes demands a few extra hours from us which we always aim to make back with time in lieu.

Location: Remote working with regular online meetings from home with monthly in person meetings.
Salary: £25-28k per annum. Negotiable on experience.
Start Date: Aug 2022
Benefits: Ethical pension. Sundries subscriptions. Learning budget. New client finders fee bonus.
Holidays: 24 days (5 working weeks) + Scottish bank holidays.
Probation period: 3 months

Our studio. Your role.

ilka has turned 5 and to help us in a new exciting phase we are expanding our team and looking for a third team member. We are looking for a mid-senior designer who can take leadership of a project from start to finish. This is a real opportunity to shape the role you want, working closely with us to create exceptional design solutions for our clients.

We are Scotland’s first B-Corp design studio. We specialise in: research, strategy, branding, copywriting, creative campaigns and exhibition design. We are committed to sustainability and use our design expertise to support organisations who are also striving to be a force for good. We are keen to find the right fit for our small studio. Someone who believes in the power of design to create meaningful experiences that positively impact people and planet.

Skills and Responsibilities

Project Management

Our clients are extremely important to us. We need to push, challenge and support our clients every step of the way. Designers must be able to prioritise and coordinate several client projects from start to finish whilst building a trusted client relationship. Everyday tasks include: facilitating emails and meetings, scoping, quoting and billing projects, assigning tasks and setting timeframes to ensure solutions are delivered on time and within budget. Excellent listening, negotiation and presentation abilities with strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Strategy

Everything we do is built from a solid understanding of our clients needs and industry insights. We are looking for a someone who is curious to ask, humble enough to listen and confident to distill client goals into a focussed communications strategy. Designers must be able or willing to facilitate workshops, conduct surveys and generate independent context in order to identify challenges, set brand positioning and identify key audiences and channels.
Copywriting

Design is only as good as the concept and narrative that supports it. As a small studio we pride ourselves in being able to write unique and well-crafted copy that meets our clients’ needs as well as our own. Designers must be able or willing to learn how to craft clear and concise communications. Evolving brand personalities into clever and consistent storytelling that will convince anyone into action.
Design

Our workload varies so we need a designer with a holistic approach, capable of working across multiple creative disciplines. From research and conception to design and delivery, the role requires balancing the big picture with an eye for detail. Skills such as branding, web design, campaign rollouts and social graphics are all essential. Designers must interpret briefs, guidelines and strategies and implement concepts to completion and on time. Applicants should be keen to learn the basics of new software as required.
