The Company
Char.gy is an electric vehicle charging service. We design and manufacture the hardware, and write the software that communicates with the charge points and that the customers use to charge their car. It’s a very rapidly growing industry that bridges transport, green energy, and the Internet of Things. Our charge point integrates into lampposts and uses the spare power not used by the street lighting. We have the full ecosystem required for seamless charging; the hardware, the software platform and the underlying support. Unlike other public charging solutions Char.gy is cost effective, built for public access and does not require expensive installations or special cables. We also offer fast chargers for where there is a dedicated power supply.

The Role
We are looking for a Senior UX Designer to join our growing product-driven team. Char.gy was born out of a digital agency and has historically used its design capabilities. You will be conducting research, translating findings, prototyping and carrying through to delivery.

The role will be mainly remote as this saves on commuting and gives us a calm space to work, but sometimes we like to meet face to face. You should expect to travel into the office near Aldgate East in London approximately once a month or whenever the requirement arises.

You will:
– Prototype physical and digital designs from low-fidelity sketches, through wireframes to high fidelity visual designs
– Sometimes work on the early stage high level feasibility of a project, and sometimes on a solid deliverable
– Conduct or facilitate user research and share your findings with the wider team
– Take an active interest in the design discipline and regularly share the subject with the broader team and community

This role will suit you if you:
– Are comfortable with service design and UX design – a ‘generalist’ mindset
– Have 5+ years relevant design experience at a product-driven company
– Strong understanding of usability and user centred design practices
– Have a strong understanding of the web and web mechanics (forms, navigation etc)
– Listen and communicate well
– Have strong problem-solving skills and empathy towards users
– Want to be part of the electric vehicle and green energy transformation

You might work on:
– Reimagining the onboarding journey for our drivers. How they find our charge points, potentially charge a vehicle for the first time, and pay for the service
– Facilitate design workshops with the marketing team to better define how we describe what we sell on the website
– Enhance our driver support agent start pages to help them better serve our customers
– Incentivise drivers to “demand shift” – voluntarily delaying their charge to put less strain on the grid during peak periods

Char.gy is committed to creating an environment where diversity is valued and encouraged. We believe that the best work is done in teams where we can fully be ourselves. Char.gy seeks to recruit, develop and retain the most talented people from a diverse pool of candidates and encourages an ethos where we can all do our very best work.
