About the role:

To act as the lead client design management representative for planning, design and delivery of projects across the Museum’s capital (fabric and infrastructure) and masterplan investment programmes (including galleries and displays). Projects are Museum-wide and range from high-profile front-of-house projects, to innovative infrastructure projects, along with standard renewal and replacement projects in a unique heritage environment and organisation.

Key areas of responsibility:

Act as the design representative to enable the successful development and delivery of core capital and masterplan projects, covering but not limited to the following core disciplines:

  • Architectural, galleries and displays, signage and wayfinding, including interfaces with planning and historic listed building consents,
  • MEPh (mechanical, electrical, public health) engineering, specifically covering HV / LV / life safety infrastructure distribution and resilience, and HVAC systems and distribution,
  • Structural and civil engineering (including water management and below-ground infrastructure),
  • Vertical transportation,
  • Fire safety (life safety and property protection),

About you:

•Educated to degree level in a Architectural/built-environment/ construction-related disciple, or equivalent experience

• Post-graduate degree in Architecture/ Interior Architecture/Heritage Management

•Professional body accreditation, or formal qualification in a related field, eg. ARB

•Project Management/ Programme Management/ Risk Management/Design Management qualifications

•Significant experience planning, developing and delivering projects within a large national museum or art gallery, or similar context

•Experience of working with design teams on new-build and refurbishment projects in the cultural sector

• Knowledge and expertise on procurement of consultants and contractors within the public sector, and knowledge of relevant suppliers in the marketplace.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to write strategies, briefs, and scopes, providing clarity via written appraisals to Project Team members.
