About us:

We’re a video production agency that prides itself on taking brands places they didn’t know they could go. We’ve produced commercials, video content and animations for the likes of Nestle, Unilever, Fender, Manchester Utd, GQ, Samaritans and many more – and this year we took home 4 x The Drum awards for our Heinz Christmas ad (inc the Grand Prix!)

For our agency’s next stage of creative growth, we’re looking for a kick-ass director/producer to be a leading voice in the creation of our future commercials and branded content, taking our clients and portfolio to another level.

Typically our productions are based all over the UK and at times international, so willingness to travel is a must. Outside of shoots we have a hybrid working policy, where you’ll be expected to work 2-3 days a week from our comfy central Brighton HQ to collaborate with your teammates as well as WFH with flexi-hours. We also operate a 4-day work week bi-weekly to recharge and reset.

You will work closely with our Creative Director and post-production team to lead the projects we bring to life at Gusto as our in-house director/producer. This will be a hybrid and varied role that leans more on the directing side but also includes producing roles depending on the nature of the project. You’ll be responsible for managing projects from brief through to delivery, including creative development, ideation and scripting, talent & contributor casting, directing on set and being a leading voice in post-production. Shooting and editing skills are most definitely an advantage but not essential.

When you’re not working on client projects you’ll be experimenting and building our spec portfolio in new and exciting directions utilising our extensive selection of in-house kit to its fullest potential. So our new colleague needs to have an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit who’s self-motivated and able to motivate and energise those around them. You do it with gusto!

You will be expected to have a proven track record in this role with 4+ years of directing experience in commercial film production and high-end branded content. This is not an entry-level position.

Responsibilities will vary from project to project depending on size and scope but can include:

  • Turning client briefs into compelling concepts through written proposals, treatments, scripts and storyboards
  • Creating new and exciting concepts and techniques to take clients places they didn’t know they could go
  • Producing budgets and schedules and ensuring that all productions are completed on time and within budget
  • Communicating and coordinating with clients and internal/external team members and crew throughout production – building positive, productive and professional relationships
  • Driving our productions on set and in post with narrative and visual finesse
  • Helping execute company strategy and creative goals via your creative approach
  • Continuing to build our black book of contacts across clients and freelancers

Requirements:

  • Must have 4+ years experience directing commercial film productions and high-end branded content with both agencies and brands
  • Being a creative at heart with an obsession for the moving image
  • Superior creative skills and an advanced sense of storytelling and aesthetic taste
  • Ability to articulate your creative vision vividly with both excellent written and communication skills
  • Fluency in the language of advertising and film, and being an interpreter and decision-maker between all stakeholders.
  • Great attitude, calm and collected in a fast-paced environment; helpful, friendly and diplomatic
  • A proven track record of leading productions across a range of briefs, budgets and timelines
  • An understanding of how and when to scale production value up or down
  • Proven ability to work across multiple productions simultaneously
  • Good Mac literacy

Nice to have:

  • A self-shooting director
  • Basic editing skills
  • Driving license and own transport
  • A strong understanding of social including how users digest different forms of video on different platforms
  • Excellent music taste!

Gusto’s offering:

  • £35k > £40k annual salary (depending on experience)
  • £200 grant to make the best work-from-home setup possible
  • Provided Mac laptop to work from
  • 4-day week bi-weekly
  • Flexi-hours
  • Hybrid working (2-3 days per week in office)
  • Funded training and development for creative growth
  • 28 days holiday plus Christmas to New Year closure
  • Company pension

We’re a small video agency that works very closely together in support of each other so each seat at the table is both treasured and critical. We’re looking for a long-term hire in a role that’s fundamental to our creative growth, so being a good fit for our culture and our values is super important. These are:

Care Personally

About each other, about ourselves, about our work, about our clients, about our company.

Fun Experts

We naturally lean towards fun, playful and having a sense of humour, whilst being utterly ruthless in our expertise.

Opponents of Mediocrity

If we know we can do better, then we simply must. We are unfulfilled delivering mundane, standard and ‘fine.’

We are Authentic

We’re open about what we are, and about what we are not. We follow our heart, if it feels right, it is right.

We have Gusto

If we believe in the work we’re doing then we can create, deliver and collaborate with copious amounts of gusto.

If this sounds like it could be you then we’d love to hear from you.

How to apply:

The most important thing we need to see is your work. Please send us 3 x online viewing links to work that best represents your creative voice in the short-form branded content and commercials category.

Please include the roles you carried out in the project and a very brief overview of the project and its purpose.

If you don’t have a CV, that’s fine – just tell us a little bit about yourself. If you do, it’s useful to see what you’ve been up to!

Please send your application to: jobs@gusto.film

The start date for this role is flexible as finding the right fit is essential – ideally we need our new teammate to join us between mid-January – late February.
