Introduction to Good Innovation

We have a vision to positively impact the lives of billions of people. We partner with purpose-led organisations to create, test and incubate new ways to deliver both income and impact. We’re part innovation consultancy, part start-up builders, part venture studio. As a result we’re an eclectic team of purpose-led innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers and developers and we’re looking for a mid-level designer to join our growing team.

This is an exciting new role and our first in-house creative position. We’re looking for someone who has a diverse skill set and is comfortable taking ownership of the role and shaping it.

While a detailed role description is outlined below, we’re a values driven organisation and we’re passionate about living our values through every element of our work, including hiring. If our values resonate with who you are, what you believe in and how you typically like to work then we may well be a great fit for you

At Good Innovation we…

…Agitate For Change: We constantly look for new ways to do things better. We’re frustrated with the status quo, and feel compelled to continuously challenge ourselves and those around us to be brave and bold.

…Only Accept Awesome: We know we’re only as good as our last output. We always produce work of the highest quality. We set and constantly raise our own bar so our clients are always blown away by the work we do.

…Obsess Over Impact: We don’t tick boxes, we make shit happen. We always want the work we do to drive big and lasting change. We know that innovation is nothing without follow-through and it’s often the small dents we make that combine to drive the biggest impact.

…Work & Win Together: We’ll only make the world a little bit better if we work together. We’re a people business first. We find and nurture relationships with people that share our vision and values and actively reject assholes. We know how to rally others to drive change but we listen as well as lead. We know what it means to be collaborative and facilitate fun and productive working relationships that bring the best out in people.

About the role

The designer role will be a key role at Good Innovation, as we look to reduce our reliance on freelance creatives, build powerful outputs for our clients and professionalise our internal comms.

We’re looking for a multidisciplinary designer with a range of creative capabilities and a passion for working in the purpose space and driving social change through design. You’ll spend half of your time working with our team of expert Innovation Consultants across a diverse range of projects and the other half, working with our marketing team to creatively showcase Good Innovation out in the world.

On projects you’ll be expected to lead the design direction of a range of outputs, from product mock-ups & early stage creative assets through to user journeys and creative smokescreen ads. Internally, you’ll help us to communicate our new positioning across a range of channels and comms.

Hopefully you’re passionate about typography and layout, and enjoy working across disciplines from visual identity, editorial design and digital.

As our first in-house designer you’ll be expected to help shape the role with the opportunity to drive the future development of a ‘delivery team’ at Good Innovation, as we work to build truly end-to-end innovation capabilities. Day-to-day you’ll be constantly exploring ideas and striving to seek the best possible design outcomes.

In more detail:

You’ll have 3-5 years of professional design experience in an agency environment or in-house and will be able to demonstrate your passion for purpose

You’ll be confident designing a diverse range of outputs across visual identity, print/layout and digital design.

You’ll be brilliant at working collaboratively with our innovation consultants, marketing team, wider network of specialist creatives (including copy-writers, illustrators, and developers) and our clients.

You’ll work from concept through to delivery and will be comfortable articulating your craft verbally and in written form. You’ll be excellent at inspiring clients with your ideas and creative outputs.

You’ll be comfortable wearing ‘many hats’ as you work across projects, on live sales opportunities and within the marketing team. Your time management will be excellent and you’ll be used to working at pace and juggling multiple priorities.

You are awesome in Adobe CC including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. You also have experience with digital design tools like Figma/Sketch or animation in After Effects and Premier Pro

You’re passionate about creating powerful solutions that will have an impact and drive positive change out in the world

Recruitment Process

Please apply via our recruitment portal, where you will be asked to submit your CV, a covering letter, and have the opportunity to link/attach your portfolio. Our first step in the interview process will be a 20-30 minute screener interview so we can get to know each other a little and see if there could be a good fit. Next we’ll invite candidates to a first round, face-to-face and skills-based interview where we’ll dive into your portfolio and share more around what it’s like to work at Good Innovation. Finally, a short-list of candidates will be invited to answer a short brief that will take no longer than a day of your time to prepare and you’ll be asked to come into our offices to share your work and meet the team.

Unfortunately, due to the high number of applications we receive we can’t offer personalised feedback to every candidate that is unsuccessful at the initial application stage.

Flexible approach and benefits

This is a full time role and while we’re continuing to review working patterns, we’re currently operating a hybrid model where we’re in the office 2 days per week across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The rest of the time people typically work from home.

You’ll be equipped with an iMac or Macbook Pro as well as an Adobe CC Subscription.

We’re offering a salary between £30,000 – £35,000 depending on your experience

Other benefits include 26 days holiday (not including the Christmas period when we close), a £1000 personal development allowance, a discretionary bonus based on company performance and access to a range of wellness support tools
